In the summer of 2016, I embarked on an unforgettable journey to Iceland, a land of stark contrasts and natural wonders. My anticipation grew as the plane descended over a landscape that seemed otherworldly - a tapestry of volcanic fields, rugged mountains, and sprawling glaciers.
No trip to Iceland is complete without touring the Golden Circle. I rented a car to explore this popular route at my own pace. The first stop was Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site, where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates meet. I walked through the Almannagjá gorge, marveling at the geological wonders.
Next was the explosive Geysir Geothermal Area, where Strokkur geyser shoots water up to 30 meters in the air. The grand finale of the Golden Circle was the Gullfoss Waterfall. The sight of the Hvítá river plunging into a rugged canyon was both awe-inspiring and humbling.
